The argument of evolution versus creation has raged since the idea of life forming over millions of years, by chance, was introduced into our society. It’s a divide that will likely continue until one side is proven completely wrong. But when and how is that going to happen, and who will be correct? Before answering this question we have to look at the origins of evolution.
There had been various ideas about life transitioning (the transmutation of species) from one form to another for quite some time before the 19th century, but none made any serious impact until Charles Robert Darwin stated his claims about evolution, using his theory of natural selection as ‘evidence’. Even though this news was groundbreaking and revolutionary at the time (and not well received by a skeptical public), he was not alone with his views. Around the same time that he promoted ideas about the possibility of life taking various steps to cause changes and improve, over millions of years, another British naturalist (Alfred Russell Wallace) had his ideas about a very similar theory. Although Wallace shared similar views to Darwin, it’s him who often receives the least amount of credit for the idea; Wallace barely gets mentioned these days and has practically disappeared into obscurity.
Darwin was aged 22 years when he was invited by Captain Robert Fitzroy, of HMS Beagle, to be his on board companion, and offered employment as a naturalist on the ship. Darwin eagerly accepted the offers and on December 27th 1831 HMS Beagle set sail from Plymouth in the UK; the voyage across a large part of the planet would last five years. During the time away from his home Darwin would collect animals and plants from places he and the crew visited, he would study and log his findings (he’d often eat the animals too). Between his collecting, and eating, various living things there would be lengthy amounts of time spent at sea; having some books to read would have helped pass the hours. One of the books Darwin took with him was especially interesting (considering how he would later change his mind); it was a Bible. Before boarding the ship, and during the early stages of the voyage, he had actually planned to become a clergyman. As the exploration continued he became more inclined, and later convinced, that science was behind the explanation for life on earth; not the God of the Bible. Darwin abandoned God for secular reasoning, which to this day presents with no logic: 1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not a God of confusion but of peace
What could have changed his point of view from believing God had created everything, to science being the reason behind life, and how it appeared through chance events with impossible odds? Such a change of heart is a massive swing in the opposite direction (even more so when at the time the majority of people were creationists). Whatever happened must have been dramatic; enough for him to lose his faith in God.
Firstly, the impact created in his mind was based on information that was wrong. This error occurred when Darwin incorrectly estimated time periods for an event thought to have taken place. He imagined millions of years to base what was to become the foundation for evolution (massive periods of time). It was a stop at the Rio Santa Cruz Valley, southern Argentina, which made him believe such large amounts of time would have been required to produce something he saw when there. Darwin could see a river there, and he imagined such a deep valley would have required millions of years to carve out such high sides. The fact is, much later on it was confirmed by geologists that a glacier had carved out the valley, likely taking a few thousand years at the most (based on research that points to a catastrophic event ascribed to a big glacier-lake outburst during the last interglacial period). So his idea of the river taking millions of years to carve out the valley were wrong, and he didn’t have millions of years at all; no millions of years means no time for evolution. Darwin also followed Charles Lyell, a British Geologist noted for his contribution to the geologic column (which can’t be found in it’s entirety anywhere on earth). Darwin took to studying geology and used processes such as erosion and deposition to validate vast numbers in years and time. He risked over-calculating the figures in his findings and later was forced to change them when he was exposed for making false claims about the periods of time.
But let’s go back to HMS Beagle and its visit to the Galapagos Islands. This visit is one of the most significant destinations as it’s is where Darwin found various types of finches, and formed the most well known part of his study on the voyage. He studied around 13 types of these small birds and noticed changes in them; his findings falsely led him to develop ideas for natural selection. He believed that an early ancestor of the birds, just one species, made their way to the islands and evolved into other birds over millions of years (that he didn’t have). He noted the change in the bills of the birds, some being larger and each type having different kinds of bills, mostly in shape and size; changes he believed were brought about over millions of years. What he failed to note was glaringly obvious to even a small child; they were all finches! No matter how much ‘evidence’ he found (all in his head alone), the finches remained finches. There was not a single piece of proof for them having been, or changing into, anything other than finches. The fact is this simple: the birds will always produce birds, nothing else. What Darwin saw is adaptation, NOT evolution. We see this in various animal kinds, dogs being the most varied of all animals on earth (but dogs will always produce more dogs, nothing else). Genesis 1:24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so.
Long since Darwin made his claims about evolution, science has advanced in a way he could have only dreamed about. Many scientists now claim that Darwin was wrong about a lot of his work, they can debunk plenty of his theories. Even so, without ever finding a single fossil to demonstrate one kind of animal transitioning into another, evolution is still taught as fact. There are other articles on this website that point to the excuses used for evolution to work, often they are ridiculous ideas. Even with modern dating techniques there are often no definite answers to arrive at an age of a dead and buried creature, a fossil. Radiocarbon (aka carbon-14) dating can be especially off target where accuracy is concerned.
Modern-day ‘experts’ present their findings in a way that still makes absolutely no sense as to how, over millions of years, life supposedly evolved into what we see around us today. The fossil record paints a perfect example of a how a global flood would have wiped out so many creatures in one catastrophic event. A quick death, followed by being buried in sedimentary deposits from flooding is a perfect way to create fossils. But instead of exploring this option, we’re taught that dinosaurs became extinct due to far-fetched endings to their lives, including farting themselves to death (yes, that has actually been submitted as a possible scenario). Surely it’s more likely a flood that wiped out so much life: Genesis 6:17 I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish.
It would make no sense at all to find a flint arrowhead buried in the ground from thousands of years ago and immediately claim that it must have been that shape by chance, taking millions of years to form. We know it was carved by a person, it had to be designed and then created. In the same breath many will quickly jump to the opposite conclusion about DNA believing that such a complicated creation came about by pure chance events, no intelligent designer and creator. Imagine the screen you are using to read this article came about by the components forming over millions of years, somehow improving each generation, and then later on assembling itself while becoming better all the time. You would never believe such nonsense because you’d be right to agree that would be stupid. But somehow people will believe a living creature, which is far more complex than any man-made device, is void of intelligent design. That surely has to be the most backward way a person can think, why can’t anyone see this is a massive insult to their intelligence? Proverbs 14:15 The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.
So, who is right or wrong; the person who believes in evolution or those who believe in creation? Let’s break it down into simple points: 1. The Bible. It presents logic, it has plenty of scripture that explains intelligent design and creation, it has many world changing events written as prophecies; science is found everywhere in scripture, advice for how to live a better life, and God gives us a hope for the future. 2. Evolution. It offers no hope, instead it rests on the ideas from scientists who state that intelligence is not required for something to be designed or created, even vastly complex life forms. It does not direct a person to live a better life, and it does not promote morals, it has no direction and insults the intelligence.
These are the basic principles of both sides, yet, people go back and forth with often very bitter arguments between the two differences. One thing is certain, both require some faith (evolution likely requiring more faith than a belief in the God of the Bible). The Bible contains lots of historical facts, common sense and logic, scientific proof (way before modern science later on confirmed it), and has so far proven to be a reliable source of foretelling events before they came to pass. It has predicted the behavior of society today from around 2000 years ago, and helped millions of people turn their life around when they were facing all sorts of issues. Since the reduction of church attendance, society has become morally lost; sick is now healthy, bad is good, and wrong is seen as right. You only have to look at what goes on around the world to see that it’s morally broken, without any direction or way out, it is spiritually lost. Evolution does not guide anyone, it can’t provide a person with a hope of everlasting life, and does not teach good morals (quite the opposite in fact). People say you don’t need the Bible to have good morals, but if that’s true why do we know what is right or wrong? The bible says our morals are written in our hearts from God: Romans 2:15 They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them. Evolution offers not one of these good things, it has many flaws, is based on an insane idea, and has to date provided nothing regarding any evidence of one creature transitioning to another. There have been many frauds to try and make evolution appear real; some of them are still taught as truth in text books today.
From a biblical point of view it’s clear who’s behind the fraud of evolution. Satan is called the father of the lie for good reason, and he is behind the con that takes people away from believing on God, his ideas make his enemy seem to some as a myth alone: John 8:44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
Satan will continue to lie, trying his best to make certain that evolution is the reason why life exists, he wants not one person to worship his enemy and with such an insane idea it does help him achieve part of his goal. but God promises to return soon, all the signs are in the world right now. When He does return the bible says his name will be sanctified and vindicated, all the bad things said about him will be gone forever and finally those who believe in evolution will have their eyes opened to see that it’s impossible for the universe and everything inside of it to exist by pure chance, all life on earth included.
